ITS Captioning Service

Multimedia is a useful tool and often used to share information with students and colleagues. If we’re not careful, however, we can unintentionally exclude members of our community by creating inaccessible multimedia.  For users with disabilities, elements such as audio without captions can be barriers to getting the information they need.  Furthermore, research has shown that closed captions can benefit all learners as they watch the video content.

To facilitate the accessibility process, ITS offers a service to caption multimedia.  The service is $15/hour.  For more information, contact itaccessibility@uconn.edu.  The ITS Captioning Service provides a .srt file, or caption file with timings, which can then be uploaded to the platform of your choice.  For example, a .srt file can be uploaded with a video into YouTube to provide timed captions for viewers.
